New ZF Distagon 35mm f/1.4 coming?

Thanks to Tony pointing us to the right place to look.

Apparently, someone over at FM spotted a new ZF Distagon 35mm f/1.4 for SLR with floating element is in hands of a famous Leica reviewer Erwin Putts

Take a look - http://www.imx.nl/photo/leica/camera/page155/m9part2.html

In Erwin Putts' M9 review part 2 - 7th paragraph, he lists lenses used to compare the M9 and D3x:

Lenses used are the Summilux-M 1.4/35mm asph and a very new redesigend Zeiss Distagon 1.4/35 with floating element.

Doesn't sound like a typo to me.

Will there be a new faster ZM with floating element too?

  1. Doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense. The 2/35 is one of the best performers in the line already; vendors often run out of it because of its popularity. Unless they are planning on a higher-end ZF II line that incorporates special and/or aspherical elements as well as a chip and this is the first of the line, don't bet on it.

  2. well, they just announced ZF.2 with CPUs, so it's certainly possible that the ZF.2 35mm would be an f/1.4 version.
