Carl Zeiss Distagon 35mm f/1.4 will be released on Wednesday

It is official! The new lens will be announced Wednesday (this week?), for ZE and ZF.2 mounts.

New rumor submission function

Someone pointed out to us that there could be privacy concerns with submitting rumors via e-Mail. Since the only contact method we had provided till now is by emails, it could discourage people from contacting us. To help with this issue, we have added an anonymous submission function.

Rumor: AF Lenses and adapters

We don't receive rumors that often. I don't know if it's because Zeiss doesn't have much to leak or we just aren't very popular among the NDA signers. Once in a while, we receive "something", and usually we just post that "something" right away, and here is one.

I just received an email tipping what might be the "lenses and accessories" to appear at a Zeiss Photokina booth. It says that it will be some autofocus lenses with adapters for different camera mounts.
Incidentally, there is some gossip over at 43rumors about a possible new micro4/3 product from a rangefinder company. I cannot say what we have here is related to their gossip, after all we don't have reliable sources like them. Nonetheless, this is something I think is worth making a post, so here it is:
"auto focus lenses with different mount adapters".

New Lenses and Accessories from Carl Zeiss on show at Photokina 2010

In a press conference, Carl Zeiss announced that it will participate in the Photokina 2010 and announces new lenses and accessories of them.
There is no mention of camera bodies (read rangefinder camera), so I guess those folks (me included) who have been waiting for a digital Zeiss Ikon will be disappointed. BERKOCHEN/Germany, 24.08.2010. This year’s visitors to the Carl Zeiss booth at photokina will be able to touch, test and even walk through high-quality lenses. The optical experts want to make an encounter with the world of Carl Zeiss something to remember.

“We will present new lenses and, for the first time, accessories at photokina. You'll have to be a bit more patient to find out exactly what we have in store," announces Martin Klottig, Marketing Manager of the Camera Lens Division at Carl Zeiss AG. Twice as large as its predecessor in 2008, the "application island" at the booth in Hall 2.1 will allow visitors to test the entire line of Carl Zeiss lenses.

Using a number of real subjects, photographers and anyone else interested will have the opportunity to try our various focal lengths and settings. In addition to the entirely new ZEISS lenses, guests will also be able to use Sony lenses featuring Carl Zeiss technology and the coveted Compact Prime CP.2 lenses on HDSLR cameras for video recording.

The walk-through lens introduced in 2008, invites this year’s visitors to experience the 120-year history of lenses at Carl Zeiss. It shows how Carl Zeiss has accompanied photography from one era to the next and how developments of the past have laid the foundation for the future. The high-performance Tessar lenses, for example, have been around since 1902. These pioneering, compact designs are used in a miniaturized form in high-end Nokia mobile phones.

Our partner Nokia will also present its latest smart phones at our booth, and demonstrate how compact, creative and high-quality mobile photography with Carl Zeiss works.

Zeiss ZA 24mm comparison

Artaphot.ch posted a comparison review between the Zeiss 24mm/f2, Zeiss 24-70mm, Zeiss 16-35mm, Minolta 24mm and Miolta 17-35mm lens.
Undoubtedly, the new Zeiss Distagon 24mm/f2 outperforms the rest with “more than 90% of the full frame are displayed with perfect resolution and nearly perfect contrast.” and “the image quality of the 2/24mm @ f2 is comparable to the image quality of the ZA 2.8/24-70mm @ f 11”

Zeiss E-mount lenses (for Sony NEX) at Photokina

Following news is taken from Sonyalpharumors

According to two new sources (so not a certain rumor!) Sony will show new Zeiss lenses for E-mountat Photokina in September. The sources couldn’t tell me if Sony will only show or also release the lenses. The design of the lenses will be based on current ZM lenses.

Zeiss Distagon T* 28mm F1.4 ZA soon

According to SonyAlphaRumors, there will be a 28mm f/1.4 for Sony coming in 2011. Well.. that has to be a Distagon.
