Redesign of 25/2.8 on its way

Awhile back, we received a rumor about a redesigned 25/2.8 for ZE to be available in May 2011.
Photorumors spotted this rumor from Diglloyd (different source than ours), confirming the existence of the redesigned 25/2.8.
This is the quote of Diglloyd used by Photorumors and re-used by us
“A new 25mm f/2 Distagon is coming that will likely behave more like the 21/2.8 Distagon.”

Why don't we go back to our previous rumor and see what else does it say...

  1. Distagon 35/1.4 to be available in December. Price comparable with the 100/2 Makro Planar (about $1800).
  2. Redesign of 25/2.8 for ZE to be available in May 2011
  3. An ultra-wide angle lens (wider than 18mm) is being designed (for SLR?).
  4. There are two lenses longer than 100mm in development.
Item #1 checked, item #2 checked. What about the other two? Fingercrossed...

Photozone.de Zeiss ZA Distagon T* 24mm f/2 SSM full frame test

Today Photozone.de tested the Zeiss ZA Distagon T* 24mm f/2 SSM on full frame. Well... if you read yesterday's review on APS-C format, it will be easy to sum up the result on full frame. The Optical Quality of this ZA Distagon 24/2 receives one star less in rating when tested on full frame than APS-C format. While it still produces quality bokeh with minimal bokeh fringing, the image exhibits a tiny amount of corner softness at f/2.
Go see the result here.

Also compare it with the dpreview fullframe test, and the earlier APS-C format test.

Zeiss ZA Distagon T* 24mm f/2 SSM tested on APS-C sensor

Photozone.de just published a test of the well regarded Zeiss ZA Distagon T* 24mm f/2 SSM on APS-C format.
As far as the images the APS-C sensor can see, the ZA Distagon 24/2 is
exceedingly sharp across the image frame starting straight at f/2 till f/8. The quality of the bokeh is very good for such a kind of lens (albeit average in absolute terms) and bokeh fringing (LoCAs) is also very well controlled.
Take a look at their review here.
And compare it with the dpreview fullframe review
