Crazy Steve Huff comparison: SLR Magic 23 1.7 vs Zeiss 24 1.8 on NEX-7

Steve Huff over at stevehuffphoto.com often has some interesting (sometimes crazy) comparisons on lenses. Today, he just published a comparison between the SLR Magic 23/1.7 and the Zeiss 24/1.8 for NEX.
The comparison looks at sharpness, distortion, bokeh, close-up performance. Just as you could possibly guess who the contender is for each (and all) the category (including color rendition), let's also keep in mind that it is a comparison between a $379 lens with a $999 lens, and the added size/weight to the $999 lens.

  1. I don't see what is crazy about it. Why wouldn't you want to know what more or less you're getting with either of these two. One doesn't even have to be 'better', comparisons are just that, comparisons.

He also compared the SLR Magic 12/1.6 for m4/3 with the 12/2 from Olympus Zuiko. A very similar comparison. And because of it i know exactly how different those two are. Turns out it might even be worth it having both.

  2. I am really wondering why Steve Huff is calling this DISTAGON lens a SONNAR lens?
